April 24, 2020 marked the day the doors at Westerner Park, in Red Deer, AB, were scheduled to open for the 14th Annual Mane Event. Instead, the current COVID-19 situation has forced the horse expo to open “virtually.” A Mane Event Facebook Group has been created exclusively for exhibitors who planned to be in Red Deer. They will be able to post their products and services online, and The Mane Event will publicize the “virtual” event through social media and its email mailing list, asking visitors to support them.

On account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Alberta has banned all gatherings of more than 15 people for an indefinite period of time and the City of Calgary has declared a state of local emergency. These steps, as well as our continuing concern for the health and well-being of our community, means we are unable to host the 2020 edition of the Calgary Stampede.

Ontario Equestrian - Since we issued our notice yesterday stating that we are suspending all Ontario Equestrian (OE) and Equestrian Canada (EC) Sanctioned competitions, clinics etc., The Ontario Government has enacted a Declaration of Emergency to Protect the Public.

Equestrian Canada (EC) is closely monitoring news from the World Health Organization, Canadian sport system partners, national and local authorities to help minimize the effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The 146th Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve will be rescheduled from May 2, 2020, to September 5, 2020, and the 146th Longines Kentucky Oaks will be rescheduled from May 1, 2020, to September 4, 2020. These dates are contingent upon final approval from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, which we expect to receive on Thursday, March 19.

Ontario Equestrian (OE), in conjunction with Equestrian Canada and the other Equestrian Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations across the country, is closely monitoring news from the World Health Organization, national and provincial sport system partners and provincial and local authorities, to help minimize the effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Following the recent developments and updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alberta Equestrian Federation has made the decision to cancel equestrian-related activities effective March 16 - April 19, 2020 (subject to change as updates are provided).

Following the most recent information provided by the Province of British Columbia regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Horse Council BC has suspended all activities effective Monday March 16th through to April 12th (subject to change). This includes, but is not limited to, all HCBC and Equestrian Canada Sanctioned competitions, events and clinics. Please check ww.HCBC.ca for news and updates.
